The Docking Disaster That Started It All
Every brand has an origin story. Ours involves a crowded marina, a windy Saturday afternoon, and one very public docking attempt gone wrong.
Our founder's soon to be father in law was attempting to park his boat while his wife shouted directions, his kids jumped into the chaos, and neighboring boaters watched with barely concealed amusement. What followed was 15 minutes of creative profanity, rope tangles, and eventually—miraculously—a successful tie-up that earned sarcastic applause from three nearby boats.
After profusely apologizing to his crew (and the entire marina), she looked around and had a revelation: every single person there had been through the exact same thing.
The docking anxiety. The crew commentary. The gap between what Instagram shows and what actually happens on the water. There was no brand speaking to that reality—the hilarious, chaotic, perfectly imperfect truth of boat ownership.
That's when BeaconTide was born.
Not in a boardroom. Not with market research. But on a dock, after a disaster, surrounded by fellow boaters who knew the struggle was real.
